디프테리아 전염병 창궐로 많은 아이들이 목숨을 잃게 되고, 치료를 위해 800킬로 떨어진 앵커리지에서 혈청을 공수해와야 하나 악천후로 인해 비행기 사용이 불가능하게되고, 결국 수십개의 개썰매팀들을 동원하여 릴레이 식으로 혈청을 나르기로 한다.
